The Covid-19 pandemic and its effect on the mental health of Lorain County students, kindergarten through High school, is discussed with Tonya Birney.  She is the Dissemination and Implementation  Officer for Prevention Services at the Mental Health Addiction and Recovery Services Board of Lorain County.  A licensed Independent Chemical Dependency  Counselor and Consultant, Tonya explains the programs that are now being administered by several school districts to assist students and their families in coping with  issues that have arisen due to the isolation created by the pandemic.

The February 15^th program on WEOL (AM 930/FM 100.3) featured two well-matched teams in a competition that ended with high scores for both sides. From Brookside High in Sheffield Village, the academic team consisted of Nico Morell, Oliver Palmer and team captain Kassie Brooks; representing Olmsted Falls were Rachel Allen, Elena Strozewski, and team captain David Vidovich.   Click above to hear the program. In this “Dialogues” presentation, Executive Director Cindy Andrews of the Community Foundation of Lorain County informs us of  the deadlines (in the beginning of March)  for college scholarship and grant applications which are eligible to Lorain County students.  She  also discusses the “Toni Morrison” essay contest which has a February 12th deadline.  Director Andrews explains that students  are required to have a 2.0 grade point average or better to apply for these scholarships and grants which  can be applied to 2 year schools, trade schools, as well as four-year institutions.  More details at http://www.peoplewhocare.org
